This report examines the Italian threat landscape in Q1, navigating through actual threats and distinguishing them from mere media hype.
We assess with moderate confidence that the most significant threat to Italian entities in Q1 2023 was activity of ransomware groups.
In terms of the impact of the war in Ukraine, we assess with high confidence that it impacted the Italian threat landscape by attracting the attention of hacktivist groups.
It is likely (60%-70%) that in Q2 2023 the most significant threat affecting the threat landscape in Italy will continue to be ransomware due to the high incidence rate and capability to affect businesses beyond the original targets.
As the conflict in Ukraine goes on, politically motivated hacktivist attacks will almost certainly (85%-99%) continue as well
